My awesome memories include being a part of the best Drill Team...the half time performances, the pep rallies, the games. Especially winning the AAAA State Championship in 1980 ! Best memories also include being a part of the annual A Cappella musicals and receiving rave reviews from the audience. OH, and FINALLY getting "kudos" from Bob Taylor after countless hours of "practice makes perfect".
Question 2
There were a couple of different occasions when certain individuals known as "special friends" placed HUGE "Happy Birthday" banners on the side of one of the school buildings and also at the top of the water tower to honor me on my "special day". I was called into the principal's office both times because I was "guilty by association"; thanks to the high school rumor mill. I knew who was involved but claimed ignorance. After what seemed like hours of interrogation, I only suffered a slight chiding. No names were ever revealed and we all laughed about it for quite some time.

I have so many "forever" friends that continue to humble me with their love and presence. I can pick up the phone and talk like I've just seen them yesterday. Every single one of my experiences was amazingly positive. I honestly have no regrets.

Receiving the gold award for DECA at graduation. I was completely taken off guard and humbled to the core. I had done a final project piece on my Aunt Cindy who was born with Down's Syndrome. She was highly functional given her genetic makeup. Anyway, had the NLR Times come out w/ their crew & cameras for the final shoot. Received an "A" but never thought anything else about it until I was called on stage at graduation and received my "gold".
Question 9
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY LIFE !!! My husband and I restore historic and victorian homes in picturesque Savannah, Georgia. We are self employed as real estate investors. I have two beautiful step-daughters, one cat and two fish. We live 25 minutes from the Atlantic ocean. Have one of the largest seaports on the eastern seaboard.
Question 10
Savannah really never has a winter, per se. Never snows. We are lucky if we can wear a coat or even boots from Jan-Feb. I spend my time on my boat zipping around the intracoastal and the ocean. We also have a motorcycle that we ride quite frequently for day, weekend or week long trips. Anything to be outdoors.
Question 11
We met at an outdoor blues festival (Bonnie Raitt, BB King, Neville Brothers, etc.). I walked into to the amphitheater and happened to stop near him in the crowd out of sheer coincidence. I was decked out in loads of authentic turquoise jewelry from the southwest. Single but no interest in dating. He had BBQ sauce smeared in his beard b/c he was eating ribs (yuck !...but he was really handsome). His pick-up line was "Nice jewelry". I politely said "thanks" but rolled my eyes and walked on. I was shocked to find that his seat happened to be directly across from mine. He continually looked over at me and smiled throughout the late day/evening. After all of the staring and the stalking on band breaks, I FINALLY agreed to chat with him. I ended up giving him my work number because I really didn't care if he called or not. Three months later, he took me to Chicago for 5 days and sunk the BIG hook in the heart. We returned from Chicago, moved in together and were married a year and a half later. Seventeen years to date....
Question 12
Hmmm....high points. Lots and lots of unbelievable vacations both domestically and internationally.

It never hurts to know people who know people (LOL).

Question 15
What I've learned is that unforgiveness, hate/anger, grudges, unresolved relationship issues(whether family, friend or business) hold YOU bondage NOT the perpetrator. They could care less and usually don't give you a second thought even in their idle time. If you don't find a healthy way to release it from your soul, it will eat you up until you are a bitter, hollow shell of a person. You can forgive and release w/o the wrongdoer ever being involved. Forgive the situation as quickly as possible (it is a process), get rid of the "garbage" and find a way to restore yourself completely and wholly. We only get one pass thru this life and no one should steal your power. YOU hold the key to your power (to whom, where and when to give it out at your discretion). The power of life; of happiness; of peace and of spiritual, emotional and physical health.
Question 16
Each day will hand you road blocks and problems (most days anyway). I like to call them "challenges" instead of "problems". Try not to let yourself be discouraged. If you don't attack life, it will attack you. That, my friends, is a constant in life. When you touch your feet to the ground in the morning, get out of that bed with a fighting spirit. Take on the day with gusto and energy. Realistically, we aren't going to feel like that every day but try anyway. You are stronger that you realize. Always have a "can do" attitude. If one door won't open, try another and another and another. You will find a way to cope and resolve with that which is blocking your path. Smile when you don't feel

Question 15
To slow down and enjoy the ride! :)
I believe life shows you signs, if you slow down you can see them. I have learned to pay attention to those signs. Soulmates exist and fairytales do come true. Life throws you curve balls, it is up to you to pick up the bat and swing. When things are not working, you create change and find what does. Do not let other peoples negativity bring you down. Only you can give other people that power. Each day is a new day so leave yesterday as yesterday and do not worry about tomorrow. Life is way to short to not do your best to live it in bliss every day.
Question 16
I have had enough good and bad life experiences to know what is truly important in life. It is not the materialistic things. It is the little things. The sound of your child laughing, holding hands with the one you love, blowing bubbles, having water balloon fights, making smores over a fire, opening a door for a stranger, smiling, being with those you love,.....these things are what fill my heart with bliss. They are the snapshots of a life well lived. I choose to live my life with a positive attitude full of hope, faith, and love. As Abraham Lincoln said "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It is the life in your years."

We were just special and knew it. Even the teachers would say that about our class.

Favorite high school teacher (and why):
Mr. Bell. He actually felled me. I was not happy about summer school, but I respected him for it.
Worst or most embarrassing high school memory:
Was caught and suspended because I told Mr. McDaniels that I dropped his math class but really didn't. He never counted me absent because he thought I dropped his class. My mom called the school to leave me a message during Mr. McDaniels class; they caught me playing spades in the fieldhouse.
Favorite sports/extracurricular memory from high school:
State Championship, of course.
Biggest high school regret:
Not applying myself academically.
Looking back on our high school experience, I think...
I had a great time but wasted a good opportunity.

Favorite high school teacher (and why):
Miss Gray....just like a girl to love Drama!
Musician/song and/or movie that takes me back:
Dazed and Confused? More like Sylvan Hills class of 1981! Anyone agree?
Worst or most embarrassing high school memory:
I would have to say my most embarrassing moment was from 9th grade. When I wrecked the policemans brand new Corvette at a drill team car wash.....oops!
Favorite sports/extracurricular memory from high school:
The 11th grade powder puff football game....a time where I made plenty of tackles (and enemies) with the Senior Girls!
Biggest high school regret:
Not studying more.....especially math. Who would have thought you actually do need algebra in the "real" world.

About the present:
I am happily married with 2 lovely children. Living in Florida for the past 19 years has been an incredible adventure that I would not trade for anything.
How I spend my time:
When I'm not working as a recovery room nurse I am spend most of my time outdoors at the beach, on the boat, or camping with the family.
What I'm proudest of today:
My children and loving husband.
Where I've been (e.g., lived and/or traveled):
Since leaving Cabot I have done my fair share of traveling. (And plan on travelling more since my youngest will be headed to college this fall.) I always enjoy visiting relatives in England....always good to know a local!
What I've learned over the past 30 years:
Always expect the unexpected. You can plan all you want but its how you handle the suprises that makes you who you are.
My current philosophy/perspective on life:
Long you live, and High you Fly, and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, and all you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be!
Dixie Walters
Name
Dixie ("Dee) Martin Walters
Best high school memory:
Just many, many fun times with fun people (you know who you are). The feeling that so much of life was still ahead and anything was possible.
Favorite high school teacher (and why):
Loved all my English teachers (Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Brainerd and Mrs. Young). They gave me an appreciation for literature and the written word, which has been a lifelong passion and occupation for me. I also loved Mrs. Robertson (psychology). I think she was a modern-day female Freud.
Musician/song and/or movie that takes me back:
Movies: “A Star is Born,” “Grease,” “Private Benjamin.” Music: I still like a lot of ‘70s stuff that I grew up with in junior high and high school. Also, seems like I remember cruising and rocking out to AC-DC and Cheap Trick in high school. In my senior year, especially toward the end, I loved Stevie Nicks’ “Bella Donna” album. Listened to it endlessly on my cassette player in my car. Have vivid memories of listening to it as I drove myself away to college by myself (my decision; though my parents insisted on meeting me there a little later).
About the present:
I am quite content. Married to Lee Walters, a great guy who made me decide that getting married was actually a good idea! I was never planning to get married unless I truly found someone who could enrich my life (and I don’t mean in a financial sense), and he fit the bill. Mother to two great children (Emmaline, 12; and Rhett, 10). They make motherhood easy and extremely rewarding. I have also been able to maintain a steady professional life over the years, either by working for a company or freelancing my writing/corporate communications services to companies. I have been quite fortunate to “have it all” on my own terms.
How I spend my time:
Between work responsibilities and my busy family – my kids are involved in simply everything – there’s not a lot of free time. But what there is, I try to also take care of myself, relax, spend quality time with family and friends. Travel, laugh, celebrate, smell the roses.
How I met my spouse or significant other:
During a brief post-college stint, I was back in Little Rock and working as a news reporter for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. I met Lee at a bank robbery. He is an FBI agent and was investigating the robbery; I was writing an article on the robbery for the paper and a Little Rock police detective introduced us. The rest, as they say, is history. We always joked that we should have invited the bank robber to our wedding, but he was in jail at the time!
Worst or most embarrassing high school memory:
Seeing some of my classmates getting saddled down with lifelong responsibilities at a premature age. Enough said. In retrospect though, everything probably works out as it should, or we make it work somehow.
Favorite sports/extracurricular memory from high school:
Had some great times with cheerleading, especially in my sophomore and junior years. I especially liked some of the class of ’79 cheerleaders I got to know (Nancy Hillis, Zanya Rapp and Beth Ingram, in particular – very cool gals). The football team’s triumph in our senior year was great, of course, and I have very fond memories of rolling the players’ yards, planning pep rallies, putting spirit signs out, etc.
Biggest high school regret:
I graduated a semester early and didn’t go to the senior prom or the junior prom for that matter. I didn’t mind at the time, but it might have been nice to have had that experience in retrospect.
Looking back on our high school experience, I think...
It was pretty much what we made of it. I think those of us who wanted/needed a particular experience – whatever it may have been – were able to get it. There was something for everyone.
A high school moment that's frozen in my memory:
Sadly, 30 years out – WTH? – there are just faint, yet fond, recollections of moments and people here and there. Maybe my classmates can help me out in the memory department!
High points of the last 30 years:
College at SMU, post-college career in New York City (moved there with my college roommate; had an apartment but no job; only a suitcase and a bicycle. I pounded the streets of Manhattan until I found a job in publishing. Needless to say, it was an educational experience in many ways!). Years later, moving to Chicago in the dead of winter with my husband and not knowing a soul; more years later, moving again with husband and two kids to VA and not knowing a soul. I’ve picked up a lot of friends and treasured experiences along the way! I’ve always embraced change and the unknown and am glad for that gift.
What I'm proudest of today:
My children and, generally speaking, life on my own terms. Also, my ability to live in the moment.
Where I've been (e.g., lived and/or traveled):
Dallas (college), New York City (post college), Little Rock (post-post college), Chicago (almost 12 years there after getting married; both children born in downtown Chicago); Warrenton, VA (as of 2009; happy to be here and plan to stay until our children are out of college). Traveled to many states and a bit in Europe (England and France). Every place else is “on the list.”
What I've learned over the past 30 years:
To thine own self be true!
My current philosophy/perspective on life:
Live and let live!

High points of the last 30 years:
I have done so many thngs in my life as far as working from part time at a daycare, gas stations, southwestern bell, body shops, mechanic, supervising construction crews, it took being on disability to make me go to a technical college and take up drafting and I have finally found my thing.

Best high school memory:
Good friends that continue to be just that.
Favorite high school teacher (and why):
Rick Fincher. I'm a big history fan anyway, and he made it challenging. He added the parts of history that most of the history books don't.
Musician/song and/or movie that takes me back:
Old country (the good stuff). Merle Haggard; The Gatlin Brothers. I remember meeting Charlie Daniels at the Arkansas State Fair, so his music takes me back as well.
About the present:
I am currently working in Afghanistan with the counter-narcotics program.
How I spend my time:
When we aren't working, we both like to spend as much time outside as we can. We both like riding our motorcycles, camping and hunting. When we get the chance, we try to get as much scuba diving in as we can.
How I met my spouse or significant other:
I met Cindy at Little Rock AFB. I was in the middle of telling a joke (imagine that) and after the punch line, she added her own spin on it. She has the same sense of humor that I have, so it took off from there.
Worst or most embarrassing high school memory:
Pass.
Biggest high school regret:
None. I had a great time in school, and pressed on from there.
High points of the last 30 years:
Being in a position to help people has been very rewarding, and I'd have to say that's been a constant with me. It's been fun taking risks in both the work and vacation arenas, but having someone like Cindy that wants to do it as well has been the best part of it.
What I'm proudest of today:
I've had the opportunity to be involved in law enforcement for the past 20 years, and have had the opportunity to see people at their best and their worst. I've been able to help those who needed and wanted it, as well as deal with those who need to be reminded of how it really is.
Where I've been (e.g., lived and/or traveled):
I've been lucky enough to get to travel quite a bit. I've spent a lot of time overseas working in both the military and civilian worlds. I've spent the last three years in the Middle East and Southeast Asia working and it's been quite a time to say the least. Cindy and I both like to travel and we've been able to spend quite a bit of time doing just that. We've had a chance to travel in Europe, Africa, Mexico, Central America, Canada, Asia, the Middle East, and a lot of the United States.
What I've learned over the past 30 years:
Live like there is no tomorrow. Cindy and I have always said that we don't want to be 80 years old, sitting in rocking chairs on the front porch, and saying "I wish we would have..." Rather, we'll be sitting there saying "Remember when we..."
My current philosophy/perspective on life:
Live it now and make the best of it. If you have any plans, knock them out while you still can. It might not be so easy or attainable later. How you end up at the close of the day is up to you. You can make something happen or just let something happen. You decide.

Best high school memory:
The football games. I loved hanging with my band friends and the games were always great! LOVED the pep rallys!
Favorite high school teacher (and why):
Despite his personal struggles, (and that dreaded little white spitball on his bottom lip when he was yelling at us), it would have to be Mr. Taylor. My love for music would have to win over anything else. I took voice lessons from him and he always told me that I was blessed with a beautiful voice and to never take it for granted. I never have.
About the present:
Very blessed. Time changes everything, and to everything, there is a season. My life is beginning to turn full circle as I see my parents age and become dependent on me. Not easy, but I know I'm not alone. I have many peers who face the same as I do. I have to remind myself that I can only control what I am in control of, and the rest, I have to depend on God to control.
How I spend my time:
With my family. Have to stay close to home because of parents and in laws. I love to sing, read, and especially love road trips with my best friend of 45 years. I also belong to a wonderful sisterhood we call "Sister Chicks" and have great fellowship with them when we can squeeze it in.
How I met my spouse or significant other:
Quite by accident. Went off to UCA with a broken heart and a lot to heal from. I remember praying to God when I moved in my dorm and saying, " God, if there is someone out there that is right for me, You will have to show him to me". Carl was a roommate of John Ziegler from our class. I saw him maybe 3-4 times across campus and never looked his way. Remember, I wasn't looking for anyone. Well, I went to John's apartment with a mutual friend of his and Carl's to talk about rent/expenses off campus. John wasn't there, Carl was, and so I was going to wait for John. And I waited, and waited,. so I went for a drink in their horribly nasty kitchen, decided to clean it, and while putting up the last glass, Carl reached around my waist, looked down at me and kissed me. To thank me, he said. And, well, the rest is history! Sure am glad John never showed. God had a plan. :)
Worst or most embarrassing high school memory:
WORST? That would have to be the head-on collision in my Jr year with a drunk driver. We hit at 110 mph. Fractured both my jaws and messed up my knees for life! The most frightening thing ever. MOST EMBARRASSING? That would have to be getting "Mono" on a church summer trip. I was lucky enough drink after someone who was apparently a "carrier" and BAM! I got it good. Missed a lot of school over that. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.....
Favorite sports/extracurricular memory from high school:
I wasn't athletic, so I guess I considered my school job my favorite memory from HS. I went to school half a day and work half a day. Worked in Lil' Peoples School in NLR my JR-SR year. Loved my little kiddos!
Biggest high school regret:
I didn't study hard enough. I passed and I graduated, but I didn't apply myself like I should have. Who knows where my career would have taken me.

Also, better personal decisions/choices. I made some mistakes that could have turned my life in another direction. Thankfully, God gives us grace to make choices that bring us to where we are, not where we might have been. No looking back.
Looking back on our high school experience, I think...
I'm a lot smarter than I was back then. Call it age or time, but I see now what I didn't see then. We were all looking for acceptance and to "fit" in. For some of us, it was a shoe in, and we hit the road running and it all just "clicked". For others, we struggled to find ourselves on a daily basis. Stigmas like "The Proud Crowd" or "Pot Heads", or the "Smoke Hole" all gave us personas that may or may not have been true, but at any rate, kept others from knowing who we really were, or where we came from to get there. I'm glad that over the years, I fit in better than I did back then.
A high school moment that's frozen in my memory:
The day my dad passed away, Jan 17, 1979. I remember sitting in Biology in the middle of a semester exam and just going blank and having a weird moment. Brushed it off and finished the test. Found out later at home that my dad was in a single car accident and died on the scene right about the same time I had that weird feeling. Never forget how disrespectful I was to him that morning, and how it was always going to be too late to say "I'm sorry Daddy".
High points of the last 30 years:
27 years of marriage; 2 beautiful children; Relatively good health; good jobs; Through financial struggles, health issues, spiritual ups and downs, I'm still standing on HIS promises.
What I'm proudest of today:
I am a Christian and I have never lost my values. What you see is what you get with me. I'm a people person and love that I have a giving spirit like my mom, and I have passed that on to my children.
Where I've been (e.g., lived and/or traveled):
Never lived further than 7 miles from my childhood home. I haven't had many vacations, but I've been as far as California, Florida, Texas, and Wyoming so have gone in all directions. I don't fly or float a boat, and heights make me a little crazy so road trips are my friend.
What I've learned over the past 30 years:
A lot can change and has changed.
My current philosophy/perspective on life:
Life every day to it's fullest. Embrace each moment as a gift from God, because it is. Every decision, good or bad, has a consequence; a good one or a bad one. To live in a peaceful world, we must be peaceful people, and that begins at home. Do for others in EVERY way, what you would want done for you. Can't go wrong with that!

Worst or most embarrassing high school memory:
One of the worst memories for me is when I hurt Karina Rogers feelings... I sent her a secret valentine from Craig Best b/c she was in love with him....she was so excited that she immediately went up to him and thanked him. Best high school memory:
I can not pick a best high school memory because I have so many great memories of great friends. I loved going to the pep rallies & football games with my friends. When you have great friends any time spent together can be a great memory.
Favorite high school teacher (and why):
Favorite teacher? .....ummmm...there were several; Gross, Gieger, Matchet, Johnston, Gray. They each had their own way of making the class interesting. Mrs. Gray made each student feel special in some way.
Musician/song and/or movie that takes me back:
When ever I hear "I'm Sailing Away" I want to turn it up as far as I can and sing it at the top of my lungs like Tina & I did at the STYX concert. That was our theme song. After we graduated we "sailed away" to Florida for our senior trip.
I still think of her & all our great times when I hear that song. Sometimes I even call her when it is on
About the present:
I am married to Tim, who I met at 8 Wheels Skating Rink my senior year. We will be married 28 yrs. in Aug. We have 2 wonderful children, Lyndie (23) & Tylor (19).
We attend New Life Church, where I am serving on staff as the Little Life Pastoral Care Pastor. I also have an infant center in my home, where I care for 3 infants.
My daughter is getting ready to do another 2 years of Cadre Academy, which is a full time(24/7), 10 month committment to train to be a fully devoted Christian leader in the community, church, and life. She will be going on 2 mission trips and earning a degree in Biblical Studies.
My son is getting ready to go to UACCM to get his degree in business and hopes to eventually open his own home/auto audio store.
How I spend my time:
I spend as much time with my family as I can, which is hard since my kids are grown & don't hang around the house much.
When we are home we like to relax & watch movie & facebook.
I spend a lot of time caring for infants, taking meals to families, making home visits, phone calls, and helping with services at church
How I met my spouse or significant other:
As I said earlier, I met my husband at 8 Wheels during my senior yr. He knew Danny Bagwell & asked him to introduce us.
After a summer of flirting, he asked me out.
He gave me an engagement ring for my birthday the next April & we were married in August of 83
Worst or most embarrassing high school memory:
I guess the worst memories would be the heart breaks of young love. Seems kinda silly now. Looking back I wish I would have spent more time building friendships that would last a lifetime, rather than relationships that would end when the next someone came along.
Favorite sports/extracurricular memory from high school:
I never played sports, but my favorite sports memory was definitely the football games! AMAZING TEAM! AMAZING FANS! I have gone to my kid's school's football games and they NEVER compared to SHHS games, not the teams or the fans.
Biggest high school regret:
My biggest high school regret is not putting more effort into making & building more deep friendships. I went to school with a lot of wonderful people, but only REALLLLY got to know a handful. But I feel very blessed to call them friends, even now.
Looking back on our high school experience, I think...
Looking back on our high school experience, I think I was blessed to be at SHHS. I thought my parents were crazy for moving us here from the beaches of Corpus Christi, TX, but I would not have traded my years at SHHS for any other place.
A high school moment that's frozen in my memory:
I guess my memory has thawed because I can't think of one high school moment that's frozen in my memory. I do remember being at 8 Wheels, during our senior yr, I saw a really cute guy walk in. He asked Danny Bagwell to introduce us. 2 yrs. later we were married...and still are. He is still a sexy skater
High points of the last 30 years:
High points of the last 30 years?
Well, of course my wedding; the birth of my daughter in 88; the birth of my son in 92; building our house in 94; helping launch New Life Church in 2002; my daughters graduation; seeing my daughter wholey devote her life to Christ while in Cadre Academy; my son's graduation
What I'm proudest of today:
I am proud of the family God gave me; my husband & marriage of 28 years. I believe "There is not greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth" 3 John 1:4. It gives me great pride, but I give the glory to God, to see my children striving to live a life pleasing to the Lord. What more could I ask for?
Where I've been (e.g., lived and/or traveled):
We don't travel a lot. I have been on a mission trip to Idaho.
We have been to Fl several times & enjoy spending time with Linda Kyzer Miller and her family when we are there. We have been to TX a couple of times. We took a trip to CO one summer, and about died riding bikes from Keystone to Breckenridge. I have also gone to SC to visit family
What I've learned over the past 30 years:
I have learned to be content in all things. I can make plans but the outcome is in God's hands. If I trust Him, He will supply my every need & sometimes even my wants. It is better to focus on the wants & needs of others. You are never more blessed than when you are being a blessing.
We live in an imperfect world, full of imperfect people, so we shouldn't expect perfection. We should extend grace and love.
Put God first & others second.
My current philosophy/perspective on life:
I live my life the way I do, not because I am afraid of hell, but because I am grateful for heaven. May everything that I do and say bring glory to God and draw people to Him. May nothing that I say or do make people feel condemned, but accepted & loved for who they are and encouraged to find love, life & freedom in Christ Jesus.
